The German arms concern Rheinmetall takes over the military branch of the shipyard from Lürssen Group. The giant of the defense sector wants to enter the market of naval war ships and expand its offer in the face of growing defensive budgets.

Rheinmetall announced that he agreed with the Lürssen Group key conditions for taking over Naval Vessels Lürssen (NVL), and thus a specialized branch of the Military Shipyards, which in its long history built about 1000 ships, delivering them to over 50 different war sailors and coastal guards.
The parties plan to formally complete the transaction in the “near future”, but with the proviso that its finalization is to take place at the beginning of 2026, provided that the consent of the relevant antitrust organs is obtained. The parties agreed not to reveal the purchase price.
“Thanks to this significant strategic acquisition, Rheinmetall expands its offer with the construction of war ships and strengthens its position of the leading defense technology supplier in Germany and Europe,” Rheinmetall wrote in press release.
“The current situation regarding conflicts shows that the military ability to enforce law is also gaining more and more significance in the maritime sector. Rheinmetall intends to meet the huge increase in demand from naval forces and growing budgets on orders, offering high -performance system solutions based on the latest digital infrastructure and covering all spectrum For sensors and effectors, “informs the company.
The key factor in the expected success in the military shipbuilding industry is that Rheinmetall already has wide access to the global maritime sector on international markets and enjoys customer trust. Rheinmetall already offers a selected assortment of modern system components for maritime applications, especially in terms of simulation solutions and sea protection systems.
The concern counts on the synergy effect, especially in the field of vehicle production by the Rheinmetall Vehicle Systems division.
