“Putin opens the second front.” The expert indicates what Russia is about about drones over Poland

The analyst said in an interview with the weekly “Die Zeit” that the invasion of Russian drones into the Polish airspace is a “alarming event” from the point of view of security policy.

In his opinion, this incident must not be underestimated, because although the drones were not armed with explosives, they were undoubtedly combat drones.

Muenkler believes that the order to carry out this operation was not the initiative of Russian military, but he had to come “from the very top”, that is from the Russian authorities – or at least he had to be accepted by the Kremlin. In his opinion, this is proof that the surgery with drones had not only a military but also political goal.

According to the political scientist, the goal of the action, in addition to the desire to test the ability to react Poland and NATO, could be putting pressure on the alliance, so that in a short time he would throw all the forces to secure the entire eastern flank and moved all available anti -aircraft defense systems there. This would bring political attention from Ukraine and limiting aid for this country, including withdrawal of Western air defense systems.

Muenkler reminded that Russia has recently emphasized the war from the air and is trying to prevent the strengthening of Ukrainian anti -aircraft forces through the West. “This can be called the creation of a second front by Russia,” said Muenkler. Such actions of the Kremlin would aim to connect the Alliance forces and prevent them from acting in places that are decisive for the result of the war in Ukraine.
