White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt quoted Donald Trump's exact quote during a press conference on Wednesday. “NATO was tested and failed,” said the press secretary to the president of the United States.
The press conference with Leavitt was organized just before Trump's meeting with NATO chief Mark Rutte at the White House scheduled for Wednesday. Journalists present in the room asked the spokeswoman whether the US president was considering leaving the Alliance.
– The president has already had discussions about it and I think that in a few hours he will talk about it with Secretary General Rutte – said Karoline Leavitt. She did not rule out that Trump would comment on this subject after the meeting. For now, it is not known exactly what time the conversation between Trump and the head of NATO will take place.
