Polish and Allied military aircraft were carried out on Saturday to protect the Polish air space due to a threat with drone attacks in neighboring Ukraine, and the airport in Lublin, eastern Poland, has been closed, Polish authorities announced, according to Reuters.

The Operational Command of the Polish armed forces explained that the planes participated in an operation near the border with Ukraine “to ensure the security of our airspace”, three days after Poland shot down Russian drones that entered its airspace.

“These actions are preventive in nature and aim to secure the air space and protect the citizens, especially in the areas adjacent to the threatened area,” the command said in a statement. It does not mention any recent violation of the Polish air space.

Three days ago, Poland announced that its air space was violated by Russian drones, an incident on Tuesday night, while Russia attacks Ukraine. Poland brought down these drones, with the support of the military planes of its NATO allies. Russia insisted that he did not target Poland.

The Polish air navigation agency has announced that Lublin airport and a controlled area around the airport were closed on Saturday for any flight operations.

The measures also come in the context in which Russia and Belarus carry out joint military maneuvers near the border with Poland.
