The PSD does not agree with a possible renunciation of the ceiling of the commercial addition in the case of basic foods, from October 1, announced on Saturday Sorin Grindeanu. The interim president of the PSD says that this decision was not discussed in the ruling coalition.

Sorin Grindeanu said on Saturday, on his Facebook page, that Romania needs “stimulating investments, ideas that will bring an extra in the economy”, “not experiments and austerity on account of the many”.

“This is why on Thursday we launched the PSD economic plan – a program of relaunching through investments, jobs and chances for young people. We need public policies to increase the economy and not to move all the weight on the back of those who work honestly,” Grindeanu said.

According to him, the plan must be discussed “as quickly as possible” with the governance partners with the associative structures and the business environment, “in the context in which inflation has reached record levels”.

“It is a signal that worried me, as much as the rumors about giving up the ceiling of the commercial addition in the case of basic foods, which would be raised from October 1.

The PSD leader states that the “pressure” of prices is already feeling “strong” in people's pockets and there is no need for “an additional blow”.

What happens to the basic food from October 1

The measure of the ceiling of the commercial addition to the basic products expires on September 30. The measure of the ceiling of the commercial addition was first taken in June 2023, when Prime Minister was Marcel Ciolacu (PSD).

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan does not agree with the extension of the ceiling of the commercial addition to the basic products from October 1, as written on Friday, who discussed with political sources from the PSD.

The extension of the ceiling would not have an impact on the budget, according to the same sources, being the commercial addition – that is, the merchant's profit. The sources in the PSD claim that if the measure is not prolonged this will be reflected in inflation, which will increase by 2-3%.
