US ambassador to NATO after the presence of Russian drones in Poland: “We will defend our allies”

“We are with our allies in front of the air space violations and we will defend every centimeter in NATO,” the US Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, on the X platform, wrote on Wednesday.
The US ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, is the first reaction of the United States, notes the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza. Founded in 1989, Gazeta Wyborcza was the newspaper of solidarity, the trade union movement that contributed major to the fall of communism not only in Poland, but also throughout Eastern Europe.
The Warsaw publication, however, records that, at least until the time of publication of the air, “Donald Trump”.
Whitaker's reaction came after on Monday night a number of 19 Russian drones, some coming from Belarus, they entered the Poland's airspace, being shot down by NATO airplanes. It is the first incident of this kind since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.
“The good news is that the Polish state has acted and managed to defend itself. The bad news is that this is not the end of Russian challenges,” writes journalist Bartosz T. Wlielski.
“For the first time in history, Russia faced NATO in European territory. For the first time, I witnessed a mass incursion of Russian drones into NATO airspace and, for the first time, NATO air forces responded to this challenge with fire.”
“The escalation committed by Russia is a fact. We live a historical moment and it is beyond any doubt that from now on, very quickly, our life will change,” added the journalist from Gazeta Wyborcza.
