The Suwałki isthmus, i.e. a narrow belt of 104 km long between Poland and Lithuania, called NATO Achilles, can be a particularly vulnerable area to a Russian attack – said former British intelligence officer Philip Ingram, quoted on Monday by “Sun”, Daily Express and “Mirror”.

– We observe the increased presence of Russian troops in Königsberg and Belarus, at the same time we are witnessing unexpected military exercises and unusual movements of the troops – said the analyst. As he noted, “taking control of this corridor could potentially isolate the Baltic states from their partners from NATO.”
In his opinion, the “Hybrid War with GPS signal drowning out, the sabotage of the submarine cables and small green people (…); this causes anxiety among the Russian -speaking minorities.”
Ingram explained that all potential threats to the Baltic States should be compared to the time preceding Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The isthmus or the Suwałki corridor is a concept in NATO terminology; Applies to the area covering the Suwałki region, Augustów and Sejny. The isthmus is a combination of the territory of the Baltic States with Poland and the rest of NATO countries and separates the territory of the Królewiec region and Belarus. According to the US Army, this region belongs to the potentially the most inflammatory points in Europe.
