Romania buys a light corvette, with modern equipment in Turkey. Defense Minister: “Naval forces need great”

The combined defense commissions of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies have granted unanimously, a favorable opinion for the purchase of a light corvette in Hisar, produced in Turkey.

The procedure for the procurement of the ship was started at the end of 2024 and was approved by the CSAT in March 2025.
The Minister of National Defense, Ionuț Mosteanu, spoke the importance of this decision.
“I thank the deputies and senators of these commissions who put on the agenda our request, the request of the Romanian army, to obtain the approval for the purchase of a light corvette. It is a government acquisition, a corvette from the surplus of the Turkish army, with modern equipment, NATO interoperable, a corvette of which the forces have a great need” Minister Mosteanu said.
According to the MApN, the decision of the Parliament is included in the program of modernization of the Romanian naval forces, which includes, in the long term, the construction of four European corvettes, three frigates and the endowment with submarines, drones and ships hunting me.
“The Black Sea must remain a great peace and this will happen only by showing that we are well equipped and continuing the common missions we have with NATO allies. We already have a highly successful mission with the Turkish and Bulgarian allies – the mission of MCM Black Sea – which provides the security. added the minister.
The Ministry of National Defense reiterates the commitment to strengthen Romania's security and to actively contribute to the collective defense of NATO in the Black Sea region.
