Gardeners revealed the secret of successful wintering of roses in the conditions of a harsh climate. The key aspect called the choice of varieties and phased preparation of the plant.

As writes aloud.ru with reference to the expert Nina Shcherbakova, special attention should be paid to Canadian roses – they have frost resistance and can winter without additional shelter.

“Proper nutrition plays a key role in the formation of immunity. It is important not to overfeed the plants with nitrogen, which reduces winter hardiness, ”Shcherbakova emphasizes.

In early September, it is necessary to make autumn fertilizer, then remove all flowers and buds, conduct antifungal treatment. With the onset of stable frosts up to −7 degrees, the stems are cut at a height of 12-15 cm (except for the climbing and Canadian varieties), then fall asleep with dry peat and covered with agril or spruce gun.

The expert recommends that all work in dry weather, after snowfall, additionally pour snow on shelters and be sure to remove fallen foliage for the prevention of fungal diseases.
