“The demand for work is not as strong as in the peak 2021 and is a delayed adaptation to a slower pace of economic growth in 2023–2024” – wrote the economists of Bank Millennium.
Another proof of cooling the Polish labor market is unemployment data. The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy said on Tuesday morning that the estimated rate of unemployment registered in August was 5.5 percent. This is slightly more than in July, when it was 5.4 percent. However, the indicator has been growing for several months: in June it was 5.2 percent, and in May 5 percent. A year ago in August it was lower and reached 5 percent.
To a large extent, the increase in unemployment rate is the result of the reform of employment officeswhich entered into force in June and assumes, among others The possibility of registration of farmers or registration according to the place of residence, and not as before according to the place of registration. In practice, this means that the status of an unemployed person can be maintained without the need for personal appearance at the Labor Office, which limited the number of deregistration and thus affected statistical data. We wrote more about it here.
