Great Britain has no air defense system that could capture ballistic missiles – said military expert Dr. Sidharth Kaushal on Tuesday in the “Telegraph” daily. In his opinion, in the era of threats extended by Russia, a lion's dome protecting the islands is necessary.

An analyst from the British Think Tank Royal United Services Institute (Rusia) announced that the United Kingdom should not be afraid of possible attacks from the east with ballistical missiles such as 9m723 Iskander-M or Russian assault drones, because they would have to fly over the aerial space defended by allies. Probably for their shooting down, among others F-16 and Typhoon aircraft.

According to Kaushal, maneuvering missiles fired from strategic bombers, such as Tu-95, or atomic submarines operating north and west of Great Britain, are a real threat. In his opinion, this is “the most effective means of attack” at the disposal of Russia. “The range from which bombers can be launched by maneuvering shells, and low alarm levels provided by starting from submarines are a serious challenge for defenders,” said the expert.

The interlocutor of the British daily speculates that “in the clash with Great Britain Russia would probably focus primarily on important military goals, such as critical airports and command and control centers.” In his opinion, the British defense would mean protecting strategic goals, which means that “the defensive rocket system does not have to be fully comprehensive to be deterrent.”

According to Kaushal, the current British defense means are not enough. As an example, the expert gave the Royal Air Force (RAF), which have only three aircraft of early warning E-7 Wedgetail, which is not enough to ensure 24-hour supervision. In addition, the Royal Navy does not have enough 45 destroyers in its fleet, which would ensure sufficient protection, e.g. for a shock group of aircraft carriers.

An expert from Rus emphasized that although Russia currently “does not have a sufficient number of medium -range ballistic missiles to be able to conduct conventional operations against Great Britain and other NATO allies, this situation may change very quickly in the next decade.”

This is associated with the production of the new Russian medium-sized Orieser, which Moscow attacked in 2024. The city of Dnieper in the central and east of Ukraine. Kaushala predicts that if Russia begins to produce rockets of this type at the pace at which the Soviet Union built SS-20 rockets, i.e. about 40 pieces a year, until the mid-1930s, the 21st century will have several hundreds of ornses.
