Kiev's European allies are prepared to contribute to the security guarantees for Ukraine after a possible peace agreement with Russia and is now waiting for concrete support from the United States, the Élysée Palace said on Tuesday, according to AFP.
Prior to the meeting that the Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski will have in Paris on Thursday with his allies, an official of élysée said that “we are prepared”, adding that Europeans hope to get “the support of Americans to guarantee Ukraine's security.”
Zelenski is about to have “intense discussions about the security guarantees for Ukraine” with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von Der Leyen, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, wrote on social networks, Mihailo Podoliak Ukrainian.
The problem of security guarantees supported by the West for Ukraine has dominated the diplomatic efforts to end the war in recent weeks. Ukraine's European allies are working on developing a set of guarantees for Ukraine, which could be part of a potential peace agreement and designed to protect Kiev from a possible future attack on Russia.
Russia claimed on Friday that Western proposals on security guarantees for Ukraine would increase the risk of a conflict between Moscow and the West by transforming Kiev into a “strategic provocative” at Russia's borders.
