Latvia changes the rules for crossing the border for Ukrainians from September 1. What you need to know?


According to the new rules, citizens of the Third countries, in particular Ukraine, the aggressor countries of Russia and other states that are not part of the European Union, NATO, the organization of economic cooperation and development (OECD), Switzerland or Brazil must submit an electronic declaration about their visit to the official platform of Latvia for an electronic platform for submitting an electronic. Travel declarations (ETA – Electronic Travel Authorization).

This also applies to transit travels, the website ETA.gov.lv.

They also emphasize that the questionnaire should be filled with a person who will cross the border. In it, you need to indicate the purpose of the trip, route, location, contact details and other information that may be useful to security services. Inspections can be carried out not only at the border, but also within the country, if the security authorities detect potential threats.

This system does not replace the visa, but is an additional control tool. After filling out the questionnaire, confirmation of e -mail automatically comes, a separate permit is not necessary. The lack of a declaration can lead to a fine of up to € 2 thousand.

Citizens of the EU, NATO, OECD, Switzerland and Brazil, persons with a current Latvian visa or residence permit, citizens who have diplomatic status or special official powers, if provided for international agreements, are not required to submit a declaration.
