Vladimir Putin is preparing for a “unprecedented” visit: “The two countries are in the same position”

The day before visiting China, Russian President Vladimir Putin has harshly criticized Western sanctions, given that his country's economy is on the verge of recession, affected by commercial restrictions and the costs of the Ukraine war.

Russia and China have commonly opposed the “discriminatory” sanctions in world trade, Putin said in an interview with the official Chinese news agency Xinhua, published on Saturday.

A “unprecedented” displacement, says the Kremlin

Putin will be in China, Russia's biggest trade partner, from Sunday to Wednesday, in a four-day visit that the Kremlin called “unprecedented”.

The Russian leader will first participate in the two -day summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the Tianjin port city, northern China.

Scots, focused on the Security, founded by a group of Eurasian nations in 2001, has expanded to 10 permanent members, including Iran and India.

“Scot contributes to the outline of a more fair, multipolar world order, based on international law, with the central role of coordination of the United Nations. A major element of this global vision is the creation in Eurasia of an equal and indivisible security architecture including through close coordination between the ECS Member States,” Putin said in the interview for Xinhua.

Putin will then move to Beijing to discuss with Chinese President Xi Jinping and participate in a large military parade in the Chinese capital, which commemorates the end of World War II after Japan's official surrender.

At the beginning of May, XI participated in a military parade in the Red Square in Moscow, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies over Nazi Germany. It has been XI's 11th visit to the neighboring country since he became president, more than a decade ago.

Putin: Russia and China have the same position against sanctions

Russia was hit by several rounds of Western sanctions after the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. US President Donald Trump said he could impose “massive” sanctions on Russia, depending on his progress in his efforts to obtain a peace agreement.

“In short, the economic, commercial and industrial cooperation between our countries is advancing in multiple fields,” Putin said about China, which the West accuses to support the so-called special military operation in Ukraine.

“During my future visit, we will certainly discuss the future prospects of mutually advantageous cooperation and new measures to intensify it, for the benefit of the peoples in Russia and China,” the Russian president continued.

“The two countries are in the same position against discriminatory sanctions that affect the socio -economic development of BRICS and the world in general,” he added.

The strategic partnership “without limits” works

When Western countries broke relations with Russia after Moscow launched the widespread invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, China came to the aid, buying Russian oil and selling different products to cars to electronic products, which took bilateral trade to a record level of $ 245 billion in 2024.

China was by far the main commercial partner of Russia in terms of volume, and the transactions between the two countries were carried out almost entirely in Ruble and Yuani, Putin said.

Russia was one of the main oil and gas exporters to China, and the two parties continued the common efforts to reduce bilateral commercial barriers, he added.

“In recent years, the export of pork and beef to China has been launched. Overall, agricultural and food products occupy an important place in Russia's exports to China,” Putin said.

He did not mention the EU accusations regarding China's support for Russia's War in Ukraine, which the block describes as a serious threat to European security. China denies the accusations.

Putin and XI declared a strategic partnership “without limits” in 2022. The two have met more than 40 times in the last decade.

Searched by the International Criminal Court for charges of war crimes for the illegal deportation of hundreds of children in Ukraine, Putin last went to China in 2024.
