The mother of an Israeli hostage detained in the 23-month-old Gaza strip threatened Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to act in law for the crime if his son is not released in life, AFP reports.
“Netanyahu, if my Matan returns to the coffin (…), I will personally take care of being charged for the crime,” said a prominent figure in the Obitatical Families Forum.
Matan Zangauker was abducted on October 7, 2023 together with over 200 other people during the unprecedented attack by the Islamist Movement Hamas in the south of Israel, which triggered the war in Gaza.
“If Netanyahu chooses to occupy the Gaza strip instead of accepting the Armistice Agreement, this will mean the execution of our hostages,” said Einav Zangauker, during a press statement before the Ministry of Defense. Not far from the ministry, thousands of protesters asked for the hostages and the cessation of the war in Gaza.
Hamas recently announced that he has accepted the proposal of mediators for a 60 -day armistice, with the release of hostages in two stages. But Israel was not officially responding, and the government ordered the army to prepare for a major offensive on the city of Gaza, with the stated purpose of destroying Hamas and recovering the hostages.
The attack on October 7 caused the death of 1,219 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians. Of the 251 kidnapped people that day, 47 are still in Gaza and it is assumed that about 20 would be alive.
The Israeli military reprisals have so far made 63,371 dead in the Gaza strip, most civilians, according to data from the Ministry of Haas, data considered credible by the UN.
