The United States and NATO are working on a new mechanism for the supply of US military equipment to Ukraine and will be paid by other alliance Member States, according to sources quoted on Friday by Reuters, Agerpres reports.
US President Donald Trump seems to have found a way to agree to continue Ukraine's military support in the war with Russia, namely to ask NATO allies to donate to Ukraine from their weapons, and then sell American weapons to replace those offered to Kiev, so that the financial effort is to be supported by Ukraine.
Trump also announced last month a general plan by which other NATO member states will buy military equipment from the US, which they will then transfer to Kiev. In this sense, Ukraine, USA and NATO are currently developing a new mechanism that will focus on the supply of Ukraine with American weapons from the “List of Priority Requirements for Ukraine”, known as Purl.
Advance payments, a work scenario
Based on this new mechanism, Ukraine will prioritize the weapons and ammunition it needs in installments of about $ 500 million, and NATO allies – coordinated by Secretary General Mark Rutte – will then negotiate between them who will donate or pay for the equipment on the list.

Through this approach, NATO allies hope to provide Ukraine weapons worth about $ 10 billion, a European official said on the condition of anonymity. “This is the starting point and it is an ambitious objective we work. We are on this trajectory. We support the ambition,” the official added.
If a NATO country decides to donate Ukraine weapons from its own stocks, the mechanism is now in work would allow that country to bypass the long US weapons procedures to complete its own stocks, an American official said, also talking to anonymity.
But the country will have to pay the US in advance for faster equipment delivery, another option to simply pay Washington American weapons or ammunition that will then be sent directly to Ukraine.
At least one installment of military equipment for Ukraine is currently negotiated in the new mechanism, two sources have said, although it is not clear if funds have already been transferred to the US for this purpose.
