Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister went to Budapest to agree on the unlocking of Ukraine's entry into the EU


It is reported that Kachka met with the Minister of Hungary for the EU, Yanosh Boka, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Levente Madyar and Minister of Agriculture, Istwan Nadiem.

As part of the negotiations, the parties discussed the European integration of Ukraine and the opening of negotiation clusters, issues of protecting the rights of national minorities, a safe situation in Ukraine and efforts to achieve a sustainable world, as well as strengthening cooperation between countries in trade, energy and opportunities to participate in Hungary in projects to restore Ukraine, the report said.

Kachka noted that “direct dialogue and cooperation of Ukraine and Hungary is the best way to realize the general interests of the development of Hungarian and Ukrainian societies,” and the integration of Ukraine into the EU will help the development of relations.


Context

The entry into the EU provides for the passage of screening-assessment of the compliance of the national legislation of the Candidate country to the EU Law (Acquis Communautaire). Process covers 35 negotiation sections grouped into six clusters. Clusters open alternately, given the progress in their fulfillment by the Candidate.

In June 2023 Ukraine, along with Moldova, received the status of a candidate for membership in the EU.

On June 26, the Hungarian government announced the final results of the “referendum” to enter Ukraine into the European Union and stated that 95% of the voters had expressed against it. According to Prime Minister Viktor Orban, so Hungary allegedly stopped Ukraine's entry into the EU. Orban also stated that Ukraine’s entry into the EU would “draw” Europe into a direct conflict and that no one would agree to this.

On June 27, EC President Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Commission supports the opening of the first cluster of negotiations on the entry of Ukraine to the EU.

July 3 President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky said that Ukraine is ready to open the first “Fundamentary” cluster The negotiations on joining the European Union will be ready for other clusters.
