Last chance of shopping in front of the school


Just before the start of the school year, many Poles will have the opportunity to make purchases at the last minute. On August 31, the last Summer Trading Sunday falls. On this day, shops and other commercial outlets in typical hours of commercial Sundays will be open.

This year, Polish women and Poles have already had four commercial Sundays at their disposal. They fell on January 26, April 13, April 27, and also on June 29, as if at the start of the holiday. Their ending also falls on Sunday and you can also do normal shopping that day.
This will allow many Poles – even before the start of the school year – to make up for purchases of articles necessary at school, but also complement the fridge after a holiday vacation. In 2025 there will be three more commercial Sundays and they will all be in December (December 7, December 14 and December 21).

On a commercial Sunday, August 31, most shops, shopping centers and shopping outlets will be open at slightly shortened hours. For example, on shopping Sundays, Biedronka stores are usually open until 22:00, Lidl outlets until 21:00, while Dino – until 20:00.

The Act gradually introducing a ban on trade on Sundays entered into force on March 1, 2018. From 2020, trade ban does not apply only on seven Sundays in the year: the last Sundays of January, April, June and August, on Sunday before Easter, and after the amendment also on three consecutive Sunday preceding Christmas.
The act limiting trade on Sunday provides for a 32 exclusion catalog. The ban does not include, among others postal activity, if revenues from this activity constitute at least 40 percent. revenues from the sale of a given facility. In addition, it does not apply in confectioneries, ice cream parlors, liquid fuel stations, in florists, in press stores or in cafes.
