Parcels from 25 countries will not go to the USA. They suspended services due to doubts due to customs

The World Postal Association, a specialized UN organization, announced on Tuesday that 25 countries of the world suspended the US. The reason is the uncertainty related to the consequences that will entail the USA to small shipments.

“Postal operators from 25 member countries have already informed us about the suspension of postal services to the United States,” said the World Postal Association (UPU) in a statement. It was explained that this decision is dictated by doubts arising from the new customs regulations of the US suspending the so -called de minimis principle that released small shipments from the duties.

UPU also assured that he was taking “all possible actions to prepare member states” on the effects of Washington's decisions and related requirements regarding the collection and transfer of customs duties. The UN Agenda emphasized that it also maintains contact with the US government regarding the development of common solutions.

From August 29, postal operators, courier companies and other entities authorized to this will be required to transfer the American Customs Service and Protection of Borders (CBP) of consolidated customs fees. It is about shipments imported to the US worth below $ 800. This obligation excluded, among others, documents and gifts in good faith (“in bona fide”) worth up to $ 100.

On Saturday, the Association of 51 European public postal operators, Posteurop, announced that if by August 29 it is not possible to find a common solution to introduce American duties, probably all group members will suspend shipping to the USA. According to American data, in 2024 a total of 1.36 billion parcels were sent, which from Friday are to be covered by duties, and their total value was $ 64.6 billion.

In addition to Poczta Polska, which from Monday stopped shipping to the USA, a similar decision was also made by post, among others in Scandinavian countries, as well as in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain and Italy. The German courier company dhl. (PAP) has not been accepted from Saturday.
