They want to give up Florida for Poland. “It is very hard to raise a child in the USA”

Lucie to the USA, specifically to the suburbs of Miami in Florida, went in 2014 as a student on a student visa. She stayed there for over a decade. In May, for the first time since 2017, he is going to Poland. It will be a reconnaissance before the planned return.

Our interlocutor does not hide that there are some concerns in her. – I'm afraid that I won't find myself. I left in teenage age, here in the USA I had my first job, the first taxes, bills, real estate, driving license, etc. I do not know such adult life in Poland – he admits.

Lucie did not immediately plan to stay in the US for so long. – I really wanted to go back to Poland after graduating from high school, but it turned out not to be a simple matter. Polish universities were reluctant to accept a Polish citizen without Polish high school diploma and a foreign certificate of graduating from high school. I found that it would be easier to stay here and graduate, at least bachelor – he explains.

Later, life wrote its script. During her studies, she met her current husband Matt (also an immigrant, Englishman), bought a house, began working full -time in larger corporations, and our interlocutor additionally studies at doctoral studies. Staś also appeared in their lives.

Pros and cons of Poland

– I thought my husband would gladly return to Poland or Europe, since he is an Englishman, but I miscalculated. However, after the birth of the son, the husband opened himself to the idea of moving to Poland because It is very hard to raise a child in the US without the support of loved ones – says Lucie.

– I am up to date with matters from Poland. I listen to Polish radio, check websites with messages, for entertainment I also like to look at gossip portals to be up to date with the world of amusement. It seems to me that I will only have positive surprises, I know that Poland has developed a lot – the Polish woman continues.

When asked to mention the pros of Poland, she calculates: good social assistance, “free” health care, streets, good food quality, Poles' mentality, understood as pro -family, free studies and location in Europe.

Cons are the labor market, weather and war behind the eastern border.

The pros and cons of the USA

She wonders at the same time how “the current” number of immigrants in Poland is. When we ask about the minuses of the US, it does not mention this issue directly. Instead, there are different: a large number of crimes, high prices and low quality of food, high real estate prices, paid studies (loans), paid healthcare and the entire bureaucracy, which is associated with health insurance, the lack of state nurseries (“waiting time and prices are bizarre” – emphasizes the entire banking system and being forced to have credit cards, no good public transport, (” Only Uber remains differently “), lack of sickness, short holidays, lack of employment contracts or any more formal ways of protecting the employee.

In turn, the US's pros for our interlocutor is: a huge selection of everything from study, to coffee cream flavors. “People are less envious, they enjoy the successes of other people,” he says. As the advantage also indicates the ease of starting your own business and work for “yourself”.

The standard of living in the US has changed

In Poland, the most about the USA is currently talked about in the context of Donald Trump's policy. Lucie admits that Americans are divided this topic and it is difficult to clearly conclusions. – For now, I do not feel any changes after taking power by Trump's administration. The USA is very polarized when it comes to politics, so it is known that those who voted for Trump are satisfied, and those who do not like him are dissatisfied. The choice of Trump did not affect my decision to return – he explains.

However, changes occur in the long run. – There is no comparison with the standard of living now and 10 years ago. At least in southern Florida – says.

The labor market in Poland is a challenge

Among the minuses of Poland, Lucie mentioned the labor market. So we ask about professional plans and the issue of settlement. – We checked average earnings for people in our positions and job ads. It seems to me that we both would earn a total of 20-30 thousand. PLN gross. Rather, we would buy a house somewhere near Warsaw on a loan or sold a house in Florida and bought for cash – says the Polish woman.

We ask if leaving a house in Florida can be a gate for them to go back if life on the Vistula did not meet expectations. – If we were possibly interested in returning to the USA, then certainly not for Florida. We would like to stop the house, because first of all we would have a monthly income from rent, and secondly our son could inherit him later – says Lucie.

Finally, we are still asking about my husband and whether she has concerns and doubts before arrival. – Sure he has, but he was born in England and raised in New Zealand, so immigration and adventure are not foreign to him – emphasizes the Polish woman with a smile.
