The District Court in Dzierżoniów (Lower Silesia) found a former officer of the State Fire Service guilty of ordering car arson. A 48-year-old man was sentenced to 1 year and 10 months of absolute imprisonment. He was also responsible for inciting theft and stolen goods.

As announced on Tuesday by the press spokesman of the District Prosecutor's Office in Świdnica, Prosecutor Mariusz Pindera, the former firefighter was accused of inciting another person to set fire to two cars belonging to his colleagues – other State Fire Service firefighters. The indictment also included inciting another person to commit shoplifting and receiving stolen goods by purchasing goods obtained from such thefts.
“The court had no doubts about the case and found the accused guilty of all the offenses charged. He was sentenced to a total penalty of 1 year and 10 months of imprisonment without conditional suspension,” said prosecutor Pindera in a statement.
The court also ruled on the obligation to compensate the damage. The former firefighter is to pay the victims the equivalent of the destroyed vehicles and the costs of court proceedings incurred by them.
The arsons took place in 2021. As local media reported at the time, the firefighter came into conflict with other officers from Dzierżoniów, who accused him of defamation. He allegedly incited them to set their cars on fire as an act of revenge.
The judgment is not final and the parties have the right to appeal to the District Court in Świdnica. (PAP)
