The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday had a telephone conversation with the prime minister of Great Britain Keir Starmer. A politician, among others She criticized the duties introduced on Wednesday by Donald Trump and confirmed her visit to London on April 24.


In an interview with Starmer, the head of the EC expressed concern about the damage that the newly imposed duties will cause to everyone, including the poorest countries in the world, both indirectly and directly. She admitted that customs are a serious turning point in US policy. She also confirmed that the EU is going to continue to engage in negotiations with the Americans, but at the same time she is ready to defend her interests, including By introducing proportional “remedies”, i.e. retaliation, if necessary.
Von der Leyen also emphasized that the Union is determined to cooperate with its partners in “responding to this new reality for the global economy.” She admitted, however, that she was aware that every partner would act in accordance with his priorities.
She reminded that the EU is involved in cooperation with London in terms of security and defense, as well as common and lasting support for Ukraine. Politicians also discussed the issue of prolonged peace negotiations by Russia and preparations for the upcoming EU-Britain EU summit. The meeting planned for May 19 will be an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two parties in the field of security, defense, trade and economy.
The head of the EC confirmed that she would meet with the prime minister of Great Britain in London on April 24 on the occasion of the international peak on the future of energy security at Lancaster House.
