Merz rejects the recognition of Palestine. Berlin's position is clear

“The position of the federal government regarding the possible recognition of the Palestinian state is clear (…). We will not join this initiative, we do not think that the conditions are met” Merz said during a press conference in Berlin with Prime Minister Canada Marek Carney.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced at the end of July that Paris would recognize Palestine during the September session of the UN General Assembly. Similar declarations were also made from London, Ottawa and Canberry. However, the British authorities stipulated that the decision would depend on whether Israel would end the war in the Gaza Strip and stop the expansion of housing estates in the West Bank.
The government in Jerusalem strongly opposes such initiatives, claiming that they mean in practice “rewarding terrorist Hamas”.
The current Israeli authorities are against the creation of independent Palestine. The design of its creation, however, remains a key element of the so -called two -state solutions, supported, among others by the UN, the European Union, Arab states and Palestinian autonomy.
