Columbia University announced that he agreed to pay over $ 220 million as part of a settlement with the administration of US President Donald Trump. Thanks to this, the financing of university from federal funds is to resume – said AP agency.

In March, the administration of the US President announced that he would receive $ 400 million from the University of Columbia in connection with – as specified – “inactivity in the face of harassment of Jewish students.”
As part of the settlement between the university and the government administration, Columbia will pay the federal government within three years $ 200 million. It will also cover the costs of investigations run by the American Commission for equal employment opportunities in the amount of $ 21 million.
Columbia – a private university, which receives $ 5 billion from federal funds – was the epicenter of last year's violent propalembling protests. Jewish students complained at that time to intimidate and harass students sympathizing with the Palestinian side.
The university agreed to a number of demands presented by the Trump administration, including a thorough reconstruction of the disciplinary process against students and the adoption of a new definition of anti -Semitism – AP agency said on Wednesday.
After the rector of the university, Claire Shipman said that the agreement with the administration did not include admitting inappropriate actions. The settlement codifies the reforms presented by the administration, but the university's autonomy is maintained – Shipman pointed out. – This is an important step forward after a period of increased control by federal authorities and institutional uncertainty – she added.
