US President Donald Trump suddenly attacked South Korea, claiming that it is going through a “treatment”, just hours before hosting his counterpart Lee Jae-Myung at the White House, AFP reports.

“What happens to South Korea? It seems to be a treatment or a revolution. We cannot do business in this country under such conditions,” wrote the US president on his social social network, without specifying what his attack refers to.

The South Korean leader is to be received on Monday at the White House of Donald Trump, with whom he will then have a meeting in the Oval Office, where the host has already publicly criticized the Ukrainian and South African presidents.

It remains to be seen if this meeting will also turn into a trap for President Lee, a left figure that has reached power in June after an incredible political disorder. He succeeded the conservative Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed in April after trying to impose the martial law.

The message of Donald Trump may refer to this political crisis, whose culminating point was reached at the end of 2024, and the judicial procedures that followed.

The former South Korean president, who tried to overturn the civilian power on December 3, 2024 sending soldiers armed in Parliament, is currently detained, as well as his wife. South Korean prosecutors also issued an arrest warrant for former prime minister Han Duck-Soo, suspected of helping Yoon Suk Yeol to declare the martial law and then lied to court.

The new South Korean president comes to Washington to try to obtain an agreement on commercial issues and the strategy to be adopted against North Korea, whose leader Kim Jong was supervised on Saturday, Air Defense Rocket tests, according to the official North Korean News Agency.

It is expected that the discussion will focus more broadly on the military alliance between the United States and South Korea, where 28,500 American soldiers are stationed. The US president often criticizes the costs incurred by the United States to ensure the security of his allies.
