Donald Trump settled on Thursday a two -week term for evaluating peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, in the context of the US President intensifies his efforts to mediate the cessation of the war, writes France Presse.
“I would say that in two weeks we will know what will happen,” he said in a telephone interview, when he was asked about the chances of a peace agreement.
“After that, we will have to adopt another tactic,” Trump told Todd Starnes, presenter of the Newsmax (news post close to the Republicans), without giving more details.
Trump, who had promised during last year's presidential elections that he would end the war in one day, has not been able to obtain any major progress, more than three years after the beginning of the Russian invasion in Ukraine, in February 2022.
The Republican met last Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a highly expected summit in Alaska, who failed to bring an agreement and after which Trump gave up his initial efforts for an armistice.
On Monday, the US president had discussions at the White House with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelenski and some of the most important European allies, in an extraordinary meeting.
These Washington meetings have aroused hopes that Putin and Zelenski will meet directly for a peace summit, as both leaders initially seemed open at this option.
Thursday, however, Zelenski accused Russia of “trying to avoid the need for a meeting” and said that it does not want to end the war.

Russia, meanwhile, said that Ukraine does not seem to be interested in a “long -term” peace, accusing Kiev of seeking security guarantees completely incompatible with Moscow's requests.

Trump made a habit of giving two-week terms to deliberate on Ukraine and other issues.
At the end of May, he said he would evaluate, within two weeks, if Putin is serious about his intention to conclude a peace agreement, the White House leader promising to respond “differently” otherwise.
The latest information conveyed by the international press indicates that the US president told his advisers at the White House that Trilateral Trump-Zenski-Putin will take place after the leaders of the two countries involved in the war will meet.

Meanwhile, the Russian leader asks Ukraine to give up the entire eastern region of Donbas (Donetk and Luhans provinces), to give up NATO's accession ambitions, to remain neutral and not to allow Western troops to enter the country, three sources close to Kremlin revealed for Reuters.
Essentially, according to these sources, Putin made compromises on the territorial requirements that he formulated in June 2024, which required Kiev to completely give up the four provinces that Moscow claims as part of Russia: Donetk and Luhansk from eastern Ukraine, which make up Donbas, plus Herson and Zaporojie.
In his new proposal, the Kremlin leader remained firmly in his position, asking Ukraine to completely withdraw from the parts of Donbas that the Ukrainian army still controls. Instead, Moscow would stop the advancement of troops on the current front lines in Zaporojie and Herson, the sources added.

Moscow is also willing to give in to the small parts of the regions of Kharkov, Sumî and Dnipropetrovsk from Ukraine, which they control, as part of a possible agreement, the sources said.
At the same time, the Russian leader wants to obtain a mandatory legal commitment from the US military alliance that he will not expand more to the east, as well as the limitation of the Ukrainian army and an agreement that there will be no Western troops on the territory of Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping force, sources said.
In this context, the two parties seem to remain in irreconcilant positions, after three and a half years.
