Keylor Navas May Join ETO FC Gyor as Career Nears End

Keylor Navas, the 39-year-old Costa Rican goalkeeper, is being considered for a move to Hungary as he nears the end of his career. The former Real Madrid player is on the radar of ETO FC Gyor, the Hungarian champions owned by Slovak businessman Oszkar Vilagi, who is also the owner of DAC Dunajska Streda.
The transfer is being seriously considered by the club’s officials, according to the Hungarian publication Nemzeti Sport. If Navas makes the move, he would join three Romanian players at Gyor: Ștefan Vlădoiu, Paul Anton, and Claudiu Bumba.
His last appearance was with U.N.A.M. in Mexico.
Keylor Navas, Aiming for Gyor’s Goals
If the transfer goes through, ETO Gyor would secure one of the most remarkable signings in Hungarian football this summer.
Navas boasts an impressive resume, having won the Champions League three times with Real Madrid, along with four FIFA Club World Cups, two La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey, and two UEFA Super Cups. Additionally, he has claimed ten trophies while playing for Paris Saint-Germain.
Coaching Connection May Influence Transfer
The potential transfer heavily depends on the club’s new coach, Efrain Juarez, a Mexican who previously worked with Navas at UNAM Pumas from 2025 to 2026. Their strong working relationship may play a crucial role in Navas’s decision.
Conversations regarding this collaboration reportedly began while both were still in Mexico. Juarez succeeded Slovak Balazs Borbely as Gyor’s coach this summer.
Navas holds 126 caps for the Costa Rican national team and would bring significant experience to ETO Gyor’s squad.
If the transfer happens, Slovak goalkeeper Samuel Petras would face competition for the starting position against one of the most decorated goalkeepers of the past decade.
Gyor recently lost the first leg of their Champions League qualifying round, falling 0-1 to Iceland’s Vikingur Reykjavik, with the return leg scheduled in Hungary on July 14.
