PSD notified the General Prosecutor's Office in the case of compensation of almost one billion lei paid to the Micula brothers

PSD announced on Thursday that it notified the General Prosecutor's Office in the case of compensation of 912.5 million lei paid by the Romanian state to businessmen Ioan and Viorel Micula, approved by the Government led by Ludovic Orban.
The Cotidianul publication reported that, according to the document consulted by the editors, the PSD filed a criminal complaint against former Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, accusing him of abuse of office in connection with the adoption of a government decision from December 2019 regarding the payment of compensation to the Micula brothers.
PSD sent, through a press release, that it notified the General Prosecutor's Office in connection with what it calls “one of the biggest financial scams in the history of Romania”, referring to the compensation of 912.5 million lei paid to the brothers Ioan and Viorel Micula.
According to the formation, the referral concerns the decisions made by former Prime Minister Ludovic Orban in December 2019 for the transfer of the amount from the Government Reserve Fund to the Ministry of Finance, in order to execute an international arbitration award.
The social democrats claim that the payment was made despite warnings regarding the compatibility of the measure with European legislation on state aid.
“The huge value of the damage caused by Ludovic Orban and the passivity of the current dismissed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan in defending the interests of the Romanian state in this litigation constitutes an unprecedented attack on public money, with the aim of favoring some party friends”, the social democrats' statement reads.
“PSD points out that the Court of the European Union established, by final decision, that the sums paid by the Government to the Micula brothers, contrary to the objections of the officials of the Ministry of Public Finance, represent state aid incompatible with European Union law. Therefore, the so-called pro-Europeans trampled on European values and principles to give satisfaction to some old “financial friends” of the National Liberal Party.
PSD specifies that the damage caused in the “Micula Case” is comparable to the big cannon given by the former USR ministers through the oversized purchase of anti-COVID vaccines, which is currently being investigated by prosecutors”, PSD also transmitted.
