

On August 17, Reuters, citing sources, wrote that among the conditions for the end of the war against Ukraine, Russia, a cut of the other, would require the provision of official status in some parts of Ukraine or throughout its territory.
“We have one state language – Ukrainian,” Zelensky said. “Russians can say anything. I think that they put such ultimatums to complicate the negotiations.”
Context
According to the Constitution of Ukraine, the only state language in the country is Ukrainian, but the state guarantees the free use of Russian and other languages of national minorities.
In July 2019, the law entered into force in Ukraine to ensure the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language. According to the law, the Ukrainian language is mandatory for use in state authorities and local self -government, as well as in the public areas of public life. Since January 2021, all service providers, regardless of ownership, must serve consumers in Ukrainian, at the request of the client, they can use another language acceptable to both parties.
The law does not apply to the sphere of personal communication and religious rites.
