Before the war broke out, about 138 ships passed through Hormuz every day, carrying one-fifth of the world's crude oil. Currently, on average, only five or six vessels cross the strait every day. An analysis by BBC journalists shows that about a third of recent crossings of the strait have been made by ships linked to Iran.

The US is conducting intensive military operations in the Strait of Hormuz, using aviation to eliminate Iranian drones and ships. The Wall Street Journal writes that the operation may take up to several weeks.

The daily reports that Apache attack helicopters and low-flying fighters are taking part in the operations. Gen. Dan Caine confirmed the involvement of A-10 Warthog attack aircraft on Thursday. The Pentagon said U.S. forces were implementing a “multi-phase plan to reduce the threat from Iranian armed boats, mines and cruise missiles.”
