American judge Frank Caprio died at the age of 88. He became initially known because of a TV show, fragments from this transfer later on social networks due to the compassion that Caprio showed in the trial of persons accused of minor crimes, reports to Libre.

Caprio died “peacefully” at the age of 88, after a long fight with pancreatic cancer, his family announced on Facebook on Thursday.

Caprio became known as a guest of the show “Cagt in Providence”, broadcast between 2018 and 2020. During the show, he showed a humorous and very emotional attitude, proving compassion towards criminals in financial difficulty. This attracted the nickname of “the kindest judge in the world”.

As CNN reports, videos with it in the courtroom have gone viral on social networks, gathering tens of millions of views in some cases. Among the most popular are one in which they call the children on the bar to help them judge their parents. In another, he listened to a woman whose son was killed, then cancels her fines worth $ 400.

“Loved for compassion, humility and unwavering faith in the goodness of the people, Judge Caprio has reached the lives of millions of people through his work in court. His humor and kindness have left an indescribable imprint on all those who knew him,” says the family in a press statement.

“He will be kept in mind not only as a respected judge, but also as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and his friend. His inheritance lasts through the countless acts of kindness,” his relatives said.

Caprio had retired in 2023, after being for years the chief judge of the Municipal Court of Providence, the capital of the US state Rhode Island.
