Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday on Wednesday on his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, during a telephone discussion, that Turkey will support a process that involves “all parties” to reach peace in Ukraine, the presidency in Ankara announced, according to France Presse.

Erdogan told Putin that “Turkey has been honest for a fair peace since the beginning of the war and, in this context, supports the approaches that aim to establish a sustainable peace with the participation of all parties,” the press office of the Turkish leader said, in a press release.

Turkey, who has friendly relations with both neighbors from the Black Sea in the war, has hosted three rounds of peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, since May.

Ankara often insisted on protecting the territorial integrity of Ukraine, while avoiding Western sanctions against Russia.

US President Donald Trump was discussing Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and European leaders in Washington, in an extraordinary meeting, three days after his historic meeting with Putin in Alaska.

The head of NATO, Mark Rutte, called Erdogan on Tuesday on his way to return to Europe after that meeting from the White House, the Turkish presidency said.

The two discussed “Turkey's contribution to the peace process, as one of the most important NATO countries” and agreed to remain in close coordination, according to the presidency in Ankara.

Rutte and Erdogan also changed opinions on feasible and sustainable security guarantees, the statement said, without giving more details.
