The Hilton hotel may be built in the Tatra Mountains. Residents have serious concerns

As the mayor of the Kościelisko commune, Roman Krupa, said in an interview with “GK”, one part of Polana Sywarne is owned by a private investor, while the other part belongs to the Military Property Agency. The commune plans to purchase the latter.
The investor wants to build a 300-room hotel with a wellness zone, a congress zone and a restaurant on a private part of the site. The building would have three floors and its height would reach 17.5 m. “GK” reports that the hotel could operate under the Hilton chain.

The investor needs a decision from the commune
However, the project cannot be implemented without changes to the spatial development plan, which must be made by the commune. The idea is to expand the development parameters on the investor's plot. At the same time, development in the other part of the area would be limited. As the local newspaper indicates, the office wants the plot to remain undeveloped.
The investor has already held talks with the commune office. He proposed that if the development plan is changed and consent is obtained to start construction, he will undertake in the contract to support municipal investments.

However, there are concerns among councilors that after obtaining the required consents, the investor will build an apartment building on the plot instead of a hotel. Such a move would harm the people of the area. Ultimately, the councilors did not vote on the draft amendment to the spatial development plan. They are to return to the matter during the next meeting of the relevant committee.

However, the last meeting ended in a dispute between one of the councilors – Artur Bukowski – and the investor. The entrepreneur claimed that it was the councilors and the mayor who persuaded him to build the hotel. Bukowski asked him to indicate which councilors he was talking about. In response, the businessman said that he was told that a hotel would be better for Kościelisko than an apartment building.

The inhabitants of Kościelisko themselves do not hide their concern. In an interview with “Gazeta Krakowska”, one of the residents pointed out the large size of the facility. As she explained, calculations by the local community show that the number of rooms will not be 300, but much more. There are concerns that increased tourist traffic may result in consequences such as lack of water, overload of the power grid or an increased number of cars. – Do we really want such a behemoth in this place – says a resident of Kościelisko to the newspaper.
