Orthodox advised to limit the number of godsoners up to five

August 17 11:20

In the Orthodox tradition, there are no strict restrictions on the number of godsoners, but believers are recommended not to become godparents for more than three to five children. Such advice was given by the chairman of the Orthodox Russia movement Mikhail Ivanov, writes Yamal 1.

According to him, baptism is an important sacrament, not formality, and imposes serious spiritual obligations on the godparents. He emphasized that the godfather takes responsibility for the spiritual education of the child and should instruct him in faith.

That is why many clergymen advise limiting themselves to three or five gods. Mikhail Ivanov called this restriction reasonable, since it allows the godmother to pay due attention and time to each child, fully fulfilling his duties.
