US President Donald Trump spoke “for a long time” on the phone with the Ukrainian leader Volodimir Zelenski at the end of the meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Later, Trump also called NATO leaders, the White House announces.

Trump called Zelenski during the flight back to Washington DC, said the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, in a press statement.

The president spent much of the six -hour flight on the phone. After the telephone conversation with Zelenski, Trump spoke to NATO leaders, said Karoline Leavitt, without revealing the subject of the discussions.

Zelenski's office confirmed that he spoke to Trump on Saturday morning.

Trump and Putin met on Friday in Alaska to discuss the possible closing of the Ukraine war. They concluded the negotiations after two and a half hours with common statements without announcing a armistice or a concrete step towards this objective.

During the joint press conference with Putin, Trump committed to carry telephone calls with both Zelenski and NATO officials.

“Of course, I will call our President Zelenski and tell him about today's meeting,” Trump said during the conference.
