The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, claims that by possibly appointing Oana Gheorghiu as deputy prime minister, we risk “compromising the relationship with the United States of America” and “heading towards an irreparable diplomatic disaster in relation to our strategic partner”.
- Oana Gheorghiu had criticized the current US administration on social networks, calling Donald Trump a “golan”. “A miserable character who ended up running a country,” she wrote in a February post.
Oana Gheorghiu, co-founder of the Association Gives Life, was nominated by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan to occupy the vacant post of Deputy Prime Minister, vacant after the resignation of Dragoș Anastasiu. The proposal was submitted to President Nicușor Dan on Tuesday.
In a reaction on Facebook on Tuesday evening, the PSD leader asked the prime minister to drop the proposal.
“In order to avoid compromising the relationship with the United States of America and not heading towards an irreparable diplomatic disaster in relation to our strategic partner, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan must immediately withdraw his proposal submitted to President Nicusor Dan by which he nominates Mrs. Oana Gheorghiu as Deputy Prime Minister in the Government of Romania!” declared Sorin Grindeanu.
Grindeanu claims that the Government is “already full of anti-American voices and critics of the Trump Administration”.
“Those who dream of high positions in the Romanian state must understand once and for all that every irresponsible statement thrown into the public space directly hits Romania's strategic interests! In a Government already full of anti-American voices and critics of the Trump Administration, how do such appointments help and give credibility to Romania's actions on important issues in relation to the transatlantic ally? I remind you of the Visa Waiver, a step that expected by all Romanians!”, continued the social democrat.
He believes that Prime Minister Bolojan's approach “must be reconsidered urgently”.
“I ask the Coalition partner Ilie Bolojan to take into account the point of view of the PSD and to urgently withdraw the proposal to appoint Mrs. Gheorghiu from this position of high public dignity in the Romanian state. There are no half measures on this subject. The PSD must be consulted in such decisions!” concluded Sorin Grindeanu.
Oana Gheorghiu, posts critical of the Trump administration
In a post from February, after the conflict Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky had with the US president and vice president in the Oval Office of the White House, Oana Gheorghiu called Donald Trump and JD Vance “goals”.
“Narcissism, insanity and imposture are destroying the world. To serve a criminal dictator and trample on a man who is already in the most vulnerable situation, that means being a miserable character. A miserable character, who ended up ruling a country that was once great. It's incredible what Volodymyr Zelensky is going through, it's incredible how two goons, who got to the White House, treat a man”, he wrote Oana Gheorghiu in the Facebook post of February 28.

In another post, Oana Gheorghiu stated that the USA is “temporarily led by small people”.
“America is a great country, temporarily led by small people,” Oana Gheorghiu wrote in the March 1 Facebook post.
