Almost half of the Romanians believe that the Romanian school worked best in communism. Who do I think was the best minister of education

75% of the Romanians who responded to a national Flash -Godata survey say that they are unhappy or very dissatisfied with the current education system. They believe that the “unclear and incoherent” reforms are the problem of the Romanian school, but also the politicization of the system, according to Agerpres.

  • The survey data were collected from August 11-13, through an online questionnaire. The number of respondents amounts to 1,200, and the error margin is +- 2.8%, with a 95%trusted interval, transmits FlashData.

Ask how satisfied they are by the education system in Romania, people answered as follows: 43% – dissatisfied, 32% – very dissatisfied, 19% – satisfied, 4% – very satisfied, 2% – I do not know/do not answer.

Most Romanians (67%) believe that recent reforms negatively influence education, 61% of respondents do not agree with increasing the didactic norm, and 57% would support a general strike of teachers in the autumn, notes Agerpres.

Romanians say that the main problems of the education system in the country are:

  • unclear or incoherent reform (29%)
  • system politicization (23%)
  • underfinancing (19%)
  • outdated school programs (10%)
  • lack of qualified personnel (8%)
  • Little salaries of teachers (4%)
  • Excessive bureaucracy (4%)
  • precarious infrastructure (1%)
  • I don't know/don't answer (2%)

46% of Romanians believe that the Romanian school was more effective during communism

61% of the survey respondents say they do not agree with the increase of the didactic norm for two -hour teachers, a measure taken by the Government and supported by the current Minister of Education, Daniel David.

In fact, 63% considers that “the field of education has been disproportionately affected by austerity measures”.

At the question “in what period did the Romanian school work best?”, 46% of Romanians said that during the communist period, 27% appreciated that never, 13% considered that between 2000-2010, and currently 5%.

The respondents claim that in their opinion Romania will have a modern and performing educational system in the next 10 years “only with real reforms and proper financing” (58%), while 34% believe that in the next 10 years our country will not be able to reform the current education system.

Who considers Romanians to have been the most competent Minister of Education since 1990

People who responded to the survey were asked to indicate “the most competent minister of education” from 1990-2025. 20% of them said they did not know how to indicate a name or do not want to answer. Of those who replied, the ranking was as follows:

  • Mircea Miclea (26%),
  • Daniel Funeriu (17%),
  • Ecaterina Andronescu (15%),
  • Mihai Şora (11%),
  • Daniel David (7%),
  • Mircea Dumitru (3%),
  • Remus Pricopie (1%),

Romanians believe that the current education system “creates generations without landmarks and perspectives” (59%), “ensures a limited elite and a wide mass of exclusions” (24%), “produces obedient and poorly qualified employees” (11%) and “form specialists adapted to the future” (2%).

Ask what type of school they would choose if they had unlimited resources, the respondents gave the following answers: state high school (56%), educational institution outside Romania (20%), international private high school (18%), I do not know/do not answer (6%).

How important is the BAC exam?

Another question to which participants answered the survey was “How do you characterize the relevance of the baccalaureate media for the student's future?”. The answers: very relevant (30%), not relevant (27%), slightly relevant (25%), depends on the social and family context (17%), I do not know/do not answer (1%).

35% of Romanians believe that Romania's results in PISA tests are unimportant, but 33% consider the opposite. 21% say they are extremely important, while 21% claim I don't know what Pisa tests are.

Ask if private schools offer better education than public, 43% of those who responded said that it depends on the quality of the teachers and leadership, 40% that not just 13% that yes.
