The expert offers 15 percent Digital tax. What does this mean?

Co-chairman of the Polish economy network Jan Oleszczuk-Zigmuntowski in an interview with PAP indicated that US President Donald Trump imposed 15 % duties on most European export goods.
“He wants to replace the national import of American production that will be cheaper. We should answer the same, i.e. impose 15 % tax to American Big Techy (mainly they would pay digital tax). Then we would have a negotiating position and we could possibly get out of this tax” – the expert pointed out.
He noted that Poland spends PLN 40 billion every year on the import of digital services, which he described as “colonial dependence”.
“It can be compared with how during the communism we had to send trains with coal to the USSR,” he said.
He noted that Spain, France and Great Britain, which introduced “low rates” (2-3 percent) of digital tax, speak loudly today about its revision and raising these rates. He added that in Great Britain the desire to raise tax enjoys a supreme consensus.
– Even liberal democrats, or a party with very libertarian views, demands raising this tribute. He explains this by the need to use digital tax funds to treat addiction costs, mental illnesses and suicides, which cause technology companies with their products and services – he noted.
Oleszczuk-Zygmuntowski presented his proposal of a 15 % digital tax during the Wednesday meeting of the Ministry of Digitization with the Technology and Non-Governmental Organizations. According to his account, Deputy Prime Minister Gawkowski said during the meeting that the European Commission does not exclude further talks on digital tax, and Poland is in the avant -garde countries that want to restore the European Commission in this matter.
– I am not convinced that Poland has to watch the European Commission. Countries that did not do it and introduced digital tax independently, are today billions of euros forward-added Oleszczuk-Zigmuntowski.
During Wednesday's meeting with industry and non -governmental organizations, the Ministry of Digitization presented a proposal for digital tax in Poland, which would pay companies with global, consolidated revenues over EUR 750 million.
At the meeting, representatives of the Instrat Foundation presented a report containing a review of the already functioning solutions and recommendations for introducing this type of tax in Poland based on 3 % tax, 4.5 percent. and 6 percent The findings of PAP Biznes show that the ministry is in favor of the so -called a wide variant with a tax rate of 3 %, which would guarantee PLN 1.7 billion in budget revenues in 2027, in 2028 – over PLN 2 billion, in 2029 – PLN 2.5 billion, in 2030 – over PLN 3 billion.
