According to WHO, more than 850 million people worldwide suffer from kidney disease. The most common of them are pyelonephritis, urolithiasis, renal failure, tumors and others.

Some infections directly affect the kidneys. For example, pyelonephritis is most often caused by E. coli, which enters the kidneys from the urinary tract. The disease can become chronic and lead to tissue scarring. Other infections, such as viral hepatitis B and C or streptococcus, can provoke inflammation of the glomeruli.

Chronic kidney disease, in turn, increases the risk of infectious complications. People with such diagnoses are more likely to suffer from pneumonia, sepsis, and suffer more severely from influenza and ARVI.

To maintain kidney health, experts advise maintaining hygiene, eating a balanced diet, undergoing regular medical examinations and not neglecting vaccination against influenza and hepatitis. Early detection of infections helps avoid serious consequences.
