According to the spokeswoman for the European Commission Arianna Podesta, on Wednesday, at the initiative of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, talks with European leaders, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelnski and President Donald Trump will be organized. Ursula von der Leyen will also take part in them.

A government spokesman, when asked after the Tuesday meeting of the Council of Ministers for the participation of Prime Minister Donald Tusk in talks, announced that the head of the Polish government would participate in them.

Earlier, the leaders of 26 EU countries said that roads to peace could not be marked without Ukraine. They noted that the diplomatic solution must also protect the interests of Europe's security. They declared that the EU is ready for safety guarantees, and their part must be Ukraine's ability to defend effectively.

The statement was agreed at night from Monday to Tuesday by all heads of EU states and government, except for Hungary. It is to emphasize Europe's coherent approach to the issue of war in Ukraine, which will be the subject of the meeting of the President of the United States Donald Trump with the Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Friday in Alaska.

There is no consent to talk about Ukraine without Ukraine

The Polish position regarding American -Russian conversations on Ukraine is that there is no consent that they would skip the state directly interested in this, Ukraine – said government spokesman Adam Szłapka on Tuesday. Europe must be solidary – he noted.

Szłapka emphasized on Tuesday's briefing that this position was among the topics of the Tuesday meeting of the government.

– In a nutshell: the most important thing is – and this is the position of Poland – that there is no consent to conduct conversations that will omit directly interested in this state, in this case Ukraine. Europe must be solidary, together it must participate in these conversations, in those aspects that apply to Europe. There is no consent for any decisions to be made without the participation of Ukraine – he said.

A group of conversations about Ukraine will be prepared by a group of European leaders.

US President Donald Trump is to talk to Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska. Jeszce before these conversations, at the weekend, leaders: France, Germany, Italy, Great Britain, Finland, Poland and the head of the EC Ursula von der Leyen issued a statement in which they emphasized that the road to peace in Ukraine cannot be marked without the participation of the state interested, and international borders cannot be changed by force.

At the beginning of Tuesday's meeting, Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that a group of leading European countries in Ukraine, whose work is coordinated by Finland President Alexander Stubb, will be preparing another joint position for the next few dozen hours. He reported that Deputy Prime Minister, head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski prepared on Tuesday a draft government position in the context of American-Russian conversations. – There is no doubt that it is in the interest of Poland that Russia does not come out victorious from this confrontation – added the head of the Polish government.

The prime minister admitted that the effect of President Trump's actions and conversations in Alaska is still a “great unknown”. He emphasized that from the point of view of Polish security, it is fundamental that Putin would not get a gift before this meeting, and in his opinion – it would be “conflicting Ukrainians and Poles, or more broadly Ukraine with Europe.”
