Attack from Belarus on NATO?
“Russia is considering plans for operations in the south and north of the territory of Belarus — aeither against the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction in Ukraine, or against one of the NATO countries directly from the territory of Belarus” – he pointed out, without providing further details.
Reuters reminds that Belarus, bordering Ukraine to the south and Poland, Lithuania and Latvia to the north and west, plays an important role in Russia's strategy. In February 2022, Minsk made its territory available to the Russian invasion, although the Belarusian armed forces did not directly participate in hostilities. Belarus has since agreed to deploy Russian tactical nuclear weapons and Oreshnik hypersonic missiles.
Moscow and Minsk have not yet commented on Zelensky's words. Russia consistently treats its military plans as a state secret, not revealing details of its activities in Ukraine.
The President of Ukraine announced that he had instructed the armed forces to prepare a response plan to the possible involvement of Belarus in the conflict. These actions include strengthening defense in the north of the country, including the Chernihiv and Kiev regions.
