Less than a month before the beginning of the new school year, on September 8, the school inspectorates from several counties sent to the Ministry of Education proposals for reorganization of the educational network for 2025-2026, according to AGERPRES. The decisions, taken together with the local authorities, aim to combine schools, high schools and kindergartens, against the background of the number of students and the application of Law no. 141/2025.
The school year 2025-2026 will start on September 8, according to the official calendar, while the unions announced that they will boycott the opening of the schools.
It is therefore less than a month to complete this process. The county school inspectorates in five counties have already submitted the proposals. At the same time, Hotnews asked the Minister of Education to the complete list of the proposed educational units for national level and the criteria on the basis of which these decisions were made. We will publish the data in full as soon as we receive them.

The measures come against the background of the protests of the three great trade union federations, which challenge the increase in the number of students in the classroom, the increase of the didactic norm, the reduction of the tariff to pay the time and the combination of small schools. Union leaders warn that if the government does not give up these changes, on September 8, the school will not start, being prepared a national boycott and a rally with over 30,000 participants in Bucharest.
The Ministry of Education argues that these changes aim to make expenses more efficient and adapt to demographic realities, but unions warn that they will lead to job loss, decrease the quality of education and to close schools in small communities.
