Donald Trump maintains the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz after Iran announced that the movement of ships is allowed. Condition set by the US President

After Iran announced that it had opened the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social that the US Navy will not lift the naval blockade imposed on Iran.

Although immediately after Tehran's announcement, Donald Trump thanked Iran for the decision, the US president returned with a post in which he said that the transit of ships to and from Iran would no longer be allowed.

Trump thus wants to force Iran to agree on the points in the peace negotiations on which a common solution has not yet been reached.

“The Strait of Hormuz is fully open (…) but the naval blockade will remain fully in place with respect to Iran until the Iran deal is 100% complete. This process should go very quickly as most points are already negotiated,” wrote Donald Trump on the Truth Social network.

Tehran's initial announcement

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced on Friday that the transit of all commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz is “fully open” for the “remaining period of the ceasefire” in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, according to SkyNews and Reuters.

Seyed Abbas Araqchi wrote in a post on Platform X that the measure would allow the transit of “all commercial vessels” through the strait.

“In accordance with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the transit of all commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz is declared fully open for the remaining period of the ceasefire, on the coordinated route, as already announced by the Organization of Ports and Maritime Transport of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” the head of Iranian diplomacy said.

The truce between the United States and Iran expires on April 22, while the ceasefire in Lebanon was announced yesterday and is set to last for 10 days.
