What Military Power looks like in Europe: NATO countries compared to Russia

Even without the US or Canada, the equipment of the European NATO (30 states of the total NATO of 32) exceeds Russia to any of the three major chapters: tanks, vessels and submarines. What countries have the best equipped armies and how Romania stands.

The incursions of the Russian drones, from the last days, in Poland and Romania, brought a fear with deep roots in our country. 43% of Romanians believe and fear that Russia could attack our country, compared to 10% who do not consider it possible, according to an avant-garde survey that reflects the opinion from September 8-14, 2025.
At the same time, NATO is the first international institution in which Romanians trust, with 74% of the respondents favorable to the Alliance.
Europe is the favorite target of Russia's threats, and on September 15, Dmitri Peskov, Vladimir Putin's spokesman, said that “NATO is in war with Russia. This is obvious and does not require additional evidence.”
But what does NATO mean if we refer exclusively to Europe, the first lines of a possible Russian aggression?
An infographic about military power at the level of Europe summarizes, with an obvious degree of simplification, the answer to the question. The data is taken from Global Firepower, a non -governmental database, with a solid reputation. The method of collecting the database is not publicly communicated, but Global Firepower information is used by prestigious sources.
Tanks: 20% extra for Europe
In fighter tanks, the most balanced field in the sphere of military equipment between the two blocks, Russia has 5,750 tanks, while NATO European countries have 6,781. It should be noted that not all the tanks taken into account are also completely operational, and the analysis takes into account only the total number, does not make the difference between new, modern or old technique.
Romania participates in the NATO common list with about 300 tanks.
The chart includes tanks, not armored, in any country. In the case of Romania, for example, there are approximately 800 fighting, apart from the 300 tanks.
Avios: 60% more for Europe
The second chapter of the endowment, that of the aircraft, significantly tilts the balance in favor of Europe.
At airplanes, the difference is no longer 20% for Europe, but 60% in addition. Europe has 6,900 military aircraft, and Russia only 4,300.
5 times more military vessels and submarines has Europe toward Russia
In ships and submarines, the difference in military endowment deepens in favor of Europe, which has 5 times more military forces in oceans and seas towards Russia. Russia owns 419 ships, and NATO's European countries have 2,176.
Of course, some of the submarines of Russia have nuclear focoa, which the vessels of Sweden and Finland (which together do, surprisingly, more than Russia) have no. But there are nuclear nuclear focios in the Navy of France and the Great Britain.
In this calculation the NATO countries outside Europe were not integrated.
Even by not taking into account the US, the Army of Canada for example has the following equipment: 74 tanks, 351 planes, 73 battle vessels and submarines.
The US and Canada have together: 4,714 battle tanks, 13,394 military aircraft and 513 battle vessels and submarines.
