What the newest images from a difficult mountain section of the A1 highway, between Sibiu and Pitești look like


New images were published with the works at the most difficult mountain section of the A1 highway between Sibiu and Pitești, more precisely at Lot 3 Cornetu – Tigveni.

With a length of 37.40 km, lot 3 of the A1 highway has an execution duration of 45 months, calculated from the date of issuing the authorization. The first authorization was issued only in December 2024, and currently the Webuild-Tancrad manufacturer received authorization only on 12 of the 37 km, a section that also includes Poiana tunnel.

On the side from Cornetu, access road works are being carried out, as the Facebook page Raducu p Drum informs.

The cost of the works amounts to 5.32 billion lei.

The Pitești – Sibiu section of A1 has a length of 122.11 km + 17.56 km Sibiu belt, being divided into five sections, as follows:

  • Sibiu Belt (Șelimbăr – Șura Mică), 17.56km, opened in December 2010
  • Section 1 Sibiu – Boița, with a length of 13.17 km, is made by the company PORR, having a cost of 613 million lei (excluding VAT). The contract, signed in April 2019, provided a term of 12 months for design and three years for execution. The section was opened to circulation in December 2022.
  • Section 2 Boița – Cornetu, with a length of 31.33 km, is built by the MAPA ASSAAT AS TICARET AS – CENGIZ SANAYI VE Ticaret, at a cost of 4.25 billion lei (excluding VAT). The contract, signed in February 2022, provides 18 months for design and 50 months for the execution of the works, the estimated term for the opening of the traffic being the year 2028.
  • Section 3 Cornetu – Tigveni, 37,40km.
  • Section 4 Tigveni – Curtea de Argeș, with a length of 9.86 km, is made by the company Porr Construct SRL, at a cost of 1.67 billion lei (excluding VAT). The auction was launched in 2019, and the contract was signed in 2021. The design has a term of 16 months, and the execution of the works of 44 months, the opening of the traffic being scheduled for 2027.
  • Section 5 Curtea de Argeș – Pitești, with a length of 30.35 km, is built by Astaldi, at a cost of 1.71 billion lei (excluding VAT). The contract was signed in May 2020 and provides for 12 months for design and 48 months for the execution of the works. The opening of the traffic is scheduled in two stages: December 2024 for the Băiculești – Pitești section (15.77 km) and June 2025 for the Curtea de Argeș – Băiculești section (14.58 km).
