Green, a member of the European Association of Population Studies, author of the book “Demography is the future. Does Poland have a chance to reverse negative trends”, on Tuesday in the PAP studio he referred to the latest CSO data, according to which in May this year. 19.5 thousand were born kids. As he noted, this is another month in a row that we have already fallen below 20 thousand. children's births per month.

He noticed that from January to May this year. 96 thousand were born children, which means a decrease by nearly 10 percent. compared to the same period a year earlier. – A decrease in the number of births is very fast – he emphasized.

In his opinion, the key cause of the low fertility observed for a long time are the difficulties of young Polish women and Poles with entering into a relationship. This happens, among others due to the differences in education between men and men.

– There is a much larger percentage of women with higher education than men. This is important because our education is one of the most important factors that defines what is called socio -economic status, social respect, access to resources, income and a profession – said Demography expert.

He noted that a number of studies indicate that people usually enter into relationships when potential partners have a similar socio-economic status, and the situation in which he is slightly higher is ideal.

– Because he then provides a woman with a greater sense of security, because he has more access to resources. She knows that she can feel safer and decide to be a child then – he assessed.

In addition, according to Łakomi, this is also overlapped, among others Geographical differences and migration of women to the largest cities, where universities are located, which causes a surplus of women in such centers as: Warsaw, Poznań or Krakow.

He emphasized that demographic studies clearly indicate that the earlier the first child is born, the average couple can count on more offspring. – Very many young Poles work on a limited period of time and it is very difficult for them to decide to have a child, because for example women do not have maternity allowance if pregnancy appears at the wrong moment – he said.

A greedy attempts to simplify the current demographic situation by translating it only with economic or cultural issues. In his opinion, the range of these variables is much wider.
