The government is considering giving up a draft separating the office of the Minister of Justice and the Prosecutor General – says “Rzeczpospolita” on Friday. The chapter would be carried out as part of a comprehensive reform.

The newspaper reminds that the draft act on the chapter of the function of the Minister of Justice from the Prosecutor General (incidental act) has been waiting for the Council of Ministers from January. Just before the reconstruction of the government, the then Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar assured that in autumn he would go to the Sejm.

“This, however, is not certain. The successor of Bodnar, Waldemar Żurek, is considering giving up the project and waiting for the Act on the prosecutor's office, which will comprehensively reform this institution. The new provisions are already working on the codification committee of the judicial and prosecutor's system,” informs Rzeczpospolita. “

The daily adds that experts are to finish work by autumn, but it is doubtful whether by that time it will be possible to develop provisions introducing a new law. This in turn raises the fears of prosecutors – notes the newspaper.

According to the diary, how much an independent prosecutor's office is needed, the case of Robert Bąkiewicz shows. The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Szczecin issued a subordinate Gorzów prosecutor's office to present him with accusations regarding the insult to public officials. The leading prosecutor did not find grounds for this and wanted to exclude himself from it. However, the National Prosecutor did not agree, claiming that it was … a technical activity.

“This is breaking prosecutor's spines,” said Jacek Skała, head of the trade union of prosecutors and employees of the prosecutor's office. (PAP)
