Ciprian Ciucu talks about betrayal in the PNL. “Many thought we had lost our souls”

The first vice-president of the PNL, Ciprian Ciucu, stated that when the president of the PNL, Ilie Bolojan, was offended by the social democrats, they were, in fact, offended by the liberals who had voted him into the head of the party. Ciucu mentioned that many believed that the liberals had “lost their soul” and would “betray again”, but this did not happen, informs News.ro.

PNL First Vice-President Ciprian Ciucu stated that the party faced a major problem after becoming a presidential party, and decisions regarding the party were taken “elsewhere”.

“Many expected our party to betray once again, to betray its spirit and the leader it chose. Because when Ilie Bolojan was insulted repeatedly, scheduled, assumed, by the PSD, strategically, he offended each of us as members who voted for him. And many thought that we had lost our souls and that we would betray again. What did not happen,” said Ciprian Ciucu, on Friday, at the debate organized on the 151st anniversary of the establishment of the PNL.

Ciucu said that the liberals must prepare the long-term future of the party.

“It is a party that started with Brătieni and we don't want it to end with Ciucu, with Bolojan or with the current leadership team. After Valeriu Stoica, other leadership teams came and we want other leadership teams to come after us,” Ciucu pointed out.

The mayor of the capital claims that the PNL faces a new major challenge, the emergence of sovereignist currents, which was unimaginable 15-20 years ago.

“As a man who has been to the Western Balkans, who has been to Georgia, who has been to Ukraine, to Moldova, I realized this historic chance, to be part of the European club. And today to see some alternative projects that would take us directly to the area of the Commonwealth of Independent States seems unacceptable to me”, believes Ciprian Ciucu.

He continued by saying that it seems very strange to raise the issue of whether or not Romania should join the euro, given that we are already members of the European Union, and 10-15 years ago our country was very close to meeting the criteria for adopting the single European currency.
