Over a hundred vacationers, including foreign tourists, were seriously poisoned as a result of bathing and rest on the beach popular among vacationers in Nazare in the Middle West Portugal, was handed over by local medical services on Sunday.

The swimming pool located on the Atlantic Ocean was temporarily closed on Friday after the failure of one of the sewage networks adjacent to the beach, which caused a leakage of waste to coastal waters.

According to Radio Observador, referring to local medical services, a total of 116 people with signs of poisoning after a sea bath in the beach in Nazare came to the hospitals. Among them are at least 73 children. The number of people hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning, including diarrhea and vomiting, it grows systematically.

Although on Sunday the possibility of bathing was restored on the beach, but after mass poisoning few people enter the water.

In the issued communiqué, the Nazare authorities assured that the local beach with a certificate of the so -called The blue flag, which means the fulfillment of high standards of water purity, regularly studied in the laboratory, is a safe place of rest. There is currently no threat to the health of vacationers using the swimming pool – the authorities said.
