– In 2025, Polish airports were among the fastest growing in Europe. Poland is a key aviation hub in Central and Eastern Europe, said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Maciej Lasek at a meeting with journalists on Thursday.
As he added, most of the 15 domestic airports recorded increases in passenger service last year.
– Polish airports refused last year 65 million passengers; this is an increase of approximately 10 percent. year to year for all of Poland – said Lasek. He admitted that Warsaw Chopin Airport is the leader, but the airport needs to modernize which will improve the port's capacity.
As he said, in this context, aviation should be looked at as an industry that is an important element of Poland's development, which translates into GDP growth.
Lasek recalled recent data, according to which in 2024, airports in Poland grew twice as fast as the European average and generated a total of PLN 57.9 billion of gross added value for the Polish economy, of which PLN 48.2 billion was the catalytic effect (tourism, investments, cargo). As he said, on average 10,000. PLN 500 is the increase in gross domestic product for each additional passenger per year.
– Air transport is today one of the most important development impulses in Poland – it attracts investments, supports trade and tourism, increases the mobility of talents and strengthens the labor market – he pointed out.
At the same time – in his opinion – the Polish and EU aviation market must compete with carriers from outside the European Union, where there are no EU requirements and restrictions. As he pointed out, this includes, among others: for granting public aid to airlines, or requirements regarding the parameters of aviation fuel.
– The development of the aviation industry not only in Poland, but also in Europe must be supported in the EU on such terms that we do not lose the competition to airlines and operators that have much easier opportunities to do business. I believe that the conditions for running this really difficult business, which is aviation, should be the same for everyone, emphasized Lasek. (PAP)
